In response to recent wild animal attacks on children in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, a fourth leopard has been successfully captured in the early hours of Monday, according to a forest official as reported by news agency PTI. The devotees who are crossing through Alipiri, Tirumala are afraid of going through the steps.
The male leopard, estimated to be around five years old, was caught around 4am near the Anjaneya Swamy statue at the seventh mile, the official revealed. Following the capture, the forest department promptly relocated the leopard to Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park, commonly known as Tirupati zoo.
Efforts taken by Forrest Officials
The captured leopard had managed to evade capture since August 17, often approaching the trap and then retreating upon observing other leopards being caught earlier. To overcome this challenge, the forest authorities took various strategic measures to secure its capture, explained Tirupati district forest officer (DFO) A Srinivasulu.
Safety Measures
These measures included deactivating the flashes on cameras and using animal scents to eliminate human scent around the trap area. These tactics were aimed at minimizing the leopard’s wariness and increasing the likelihood of its successful capture.
Notably, the previously captured three leopards, all males, were of similar age, leading forest officials to speculate that they might be siblings from the same mother.
Confirming recent fears, authorities have identified the same leopard responsible for a recent tragic incident involving the attack on a minor girl in the Tirumala region.
The quick capture and relocation of the leopard to Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (Tirupati Zoo) mark a critical step towards mitigating potential threats to human and animal well-being.
In addition, Srinivasulu confirmed that the captured leopard was responsible for the recent tragic incident involving the killing of a young girl in Tirumala.
