In a recent report by OpenSignal, Reliance Jio has come in first as the frontrunner in the race for 5G in India. The data indicates that during October, Jio users experienced lightning-fast 5G download speeds, clocking in at a remarkable 306.3 Mbps. This staggering figure surpasses its closest competitor, Bharti Airtel, by approximately 12.3%.
Jio Sets the 5G Speed Benchmark
When it comes to download speeds, Jio doesn’t just lead the 5G pack; it dominates it. The report reveals that Jio achieved an impressive mobile download speed of 52.9Mbps in India during October. Airtel secured second place at 26.6Mbps, followed by Vi at 15.5Mbps, and BSNL at 3.4Mbps.
The Upload Speed Contest
In the upload speed contest, Airtel takes the lead, boasting a speed of 25.1Mbps, while Jio lags behind at 6.4Mbps. Despite its upload speed, Jio still maintains supremacy in the overall download speed category.
Airtel Excels in 5G Experiences
Although Jio leads in average overall upload speeds at 5.8Mbps, Airtel is the clear winner in terms of 5G experiences. Airtel’s streaming on-demand and live videos category outshines the competition. Additionally, Airtel provides an outstanding experience for multiplayer mobile games through over-the-top OTT voice services on mobile apps with 5G.
These remarkable results were made possible by the launch of Airtel and Jio’s ‘Xstream AirFiber’ and ‘AirFiber’ fixed wireless access (FWA) services, respectively. These services have collectively contributed to both telecom networks acquiring nearly 50 million 5G subscriptions each.
Vodafone Idea (VI)
In response to this competitive environment, Vodafone Idea is actively working to meet its 5G obligations. The company is conducting tests in Pune and exploring OpenRAN and virtualized RAN technologies to streamline the rollout and reduce costs, according to Hardik Khatri, a Senior Analyst at OpenSignal.
In this heated race for 5G supremacy, Jio’s dominant download speeds and Airtel’s exceptional 5G experiences stand out, marking an exciting chapter in India’s telecommunications industry.
