The Karnataka government is set to launch the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme today, a women’s financial assistance program in Mysuru. The inauguration event will witness the presence of Congress party President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddararamaiah, and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
Under this initiative, approximately 1.1 crore women who are heads of households will receive a monthly aid of ₹2,000 each. “A total of 1.1 crore women leading families will be provided with ₹2,000 per month,” Siddararamaiah remarked.
For the current fiscal year, the Karnataka government has allocated ₹17,500 crore for the implementation of the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ program.
The ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme constitutes one of the five pre-election ‘assurances’ put forth by the Congress party, which secured victory over the BJP in the May Karnataka Assembly election.
The state administration has already executed three out of the five ‘assurances’—’Shakti,’ ‘Gruha Jyothi,’ and ‘Anna Bhagya’—and ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ marks the fourth one. The fifth pledge is the ‘Yuva Nidhi’ scheme, offering unemployment allowance to the state’s young populace.
