In a spirit of patriotism, the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign was given a kick start this year with a grand bike rally by Members of Parliament in Delhi. This initiative, which marked its establishment last year under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, took off again with pride and enthusiasm.
The bike rally commenced from Pragati Maidan, as MPs and ministers adorned their bikes with the vibrant tricolour flags, reflecting the nation’s pride. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had the honour of flagging off the event at 8 am. The rally starts through Delhi’s roads, reaching the iconic India Gate circle, circling around the historic complex, crossing Kartavya Path, and eventually concluding at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium.
Part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” the campaign from August 13 to August 15 aims to encourage citizens across the nation to hoist the national flag at their homes. It’s a symbol of unity, recalling the freedom struggle, honoring the milestones achieved by India, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage.
Last year, the campaign was met with immense success. Crores of families hoisted the ‘Tiranga’ at their residences, and six crore individuals uploaded selfies on the Har Ghar Tiranga website. The Ministry of Culture noted that the goal of this campaign is to fill the hearts of Indians with patriotism and pay homage to those who crafted this magnificent nation.
The novel addition to this year’s initiative is India Post’s involvement. It has started selling and providing national flags through its extensive network of 1.6 lakh post offices. This move amplifies the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, making it more accessible to the masses.
Prime Minister Modi’s call last year, urging the citizens to display the ‘Tiranga’ as their social media profile pictures from August 2 to August 15, echoes the sentiment of national pride.
The right to hoist the National Flag freely was realized after industrialist Naveen Jindal’s decade-long legal fight. This culminated in the Supreme Court’s judgement on January 23, 2004, declaring this act as a fundamental right under Article 19(1) (a) of the Constitution of India. The renewed “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign stands as a evidence to this right and symbolizes the unity, integrity, and diverse culture of India.
