Apple is getting ready to launch its latest iOS 17.1 update, with a release date expected in October. While Apple has not officially announced the release date, a recent statement from France’s national frequency agency, the Agence Nationale Des Fréquences (ANFR), has leaked this date.
According to ANFR, iOS 17.1 is likely to become available to users as early as October 24. This update is designed to address concerns raised by regulators about excessive electromagnetic radiation emissions from the iPhone 12.
France had temporarily suspended sales of the iPhone 12 in September after discovering that the device emitted more electromagnetic waves than permitted.
Apple agreed to update the iPhone 12 in France to address these concerns. As an update to this ban, the ANFR website explains, “Apple has developed a software update and ANFR has validated it since it effectively brings the localized ‘member’ SAR into compliance with the regulatory limit of 4 W/kg.
This update was distributed by Apple to certain voluntary customers over the past few days (‘beta testers’). The company has committed to extending this software update to all French iPhone 12 users by October 24 at the latest.
The ban on the marketing of the iPhone 12 will remain in force in France until the effective deployment of this update to the general public.”
The ANFR website also emphasizes that the ban on the marketing of the iPhone 12 will stay in effect until the update is deployed. Once iOS 17.1 becomes available, Apple, resellers, and operators will be able to resume the sale of the iPhone 12 in France.
Exciting Features in iOS 17.1
The upcoming iOS 17.1 update brings several noteworthy features. These enhancements not only address the radiation concerns raised by French regulators but also provide new functionalities and improvements to various applications within the iOS ecosystem.
1. Music App: Users can now mark their favorite songs, albums, playlists, and artists with a star icon. This action adds the selected items to their library and helps Apple enhance its recommendations. For example, if users have many favorite songs from a particular artist, Apple may recommend more songs from that artist in the future.
2. AirDrop: iOS 17.1 introduces an “Out of Range” option for AirDrop, allowing users to send and receive files even when the two devices are not in close proximity. The file transfer will occur via Wi-Fi or cellular data, particularly useful for sharing large files.
3. Connected Cards: iPhone users in the UK will be able to add their debit and credit cards from selected banks to the Wallet app. This feature enables them to view their latest transactions and balances without opening the bank app, providing a convenient way to manage finances and track spending.
