Apple has announced the global rollout of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17, following their announcement at WWDC in June. iOS 17 brings substantial updates to Phone, Messages, and FaceTime, introducing StandBy, a fresh full-screen experience, and more.
AirDrop in iOS 17 simplifies sharing and connecting with people nearby, with the addition of NameDrop for contact sharing. Furthermore, it introduces enhancements to Widgets, Safari, Music, AirPlay, and more.
iPadOS 17 delivers a revamped Lock Screen, a new Stickers experience in Messages, and an updated Health app alongside productivity enhancements. It also includes updates to Safari, Keyboard, Music, AirPlay, and more.
watchOS 10 marks a significant update for Apple Watch, offering a refreshed appearance for nearly every app, new navigation methods, and a new Smart Stack. It enhances capabilities for cycling workouts and hiking while introducing a new mental health experience in the Mindfulness app.
tvOS 17 empowers users to make calls directly from Apple TV 4K or initiate calls on an iPhone or iPad and seamlessly transfer them to Apple TV 4K. FaceTime on Apple TV 4K leverages Continuity Camera support to wirelessly connect to iPhone or iPad, using their cameras and microphones to bring participants together on the TV.
In the coming months, tvOS apps like Webex by Cisco and Zoom will leverage Continuity Camera to expand their communication capabilities on Apple TV 4K.
iOS 17 is compatible with iPhone Xs and later, while older devices like the iPhone 8 series, iPhone SE (1st generation), and iPhone X are no longer supported. iPadOS 17 extends to various iPad models, including iPad (6th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), and iPad Pro (10.5-inch, 11-inch, and 12.9-inch).
watchOS 10 requires Apple Watch Series 4 or later, along with iPhone Xs or newer devices running iOS 17. Lastly, tvOS 17 is available for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.
This rollout brings a list of enhancements and fresh experiences to Apple’s ecosystem of devices, offering users an enriched digital experience.
