Microsoft Windows 10 offers plenty of ways to keep your computer safe from prying eyes, and one of these is the PIN feature.
Instead of using a complex password, you can use a PIN, just like you do on your smartphone. This allows you to log onto your device quickly while still maintaining a decent level of security. If you want to secure your home computer, a PIN is usually more than sufficient to keep things safe and sound. So, chances are you’ve set up a PIN on your Windows 10 PC.
But there might come a time when you think, “Hey, I don’t need this PIN anymore.” In such a scenario, it’s a breeze to bid adieu to your login PIN on Windows 10.
Here’s how you can do it:
- Open Settings: To get the ball rolling, click on the “Settings” from your trusty Start Menu.
- Go to Accounts: Once you’re in the Settings realm, venture into the “Accounts” section.
- Click on Sign-in Options: Within “Accounts,” find and click on “Sign-in options.”
- Locate Windows Hello PIN: You’ll then spot an option labelled “Windows Hello PIN.” Click on this.
- Hit Remove: Now, it’s time to take action. Click on “Remove.”
- Confirm the Removal: Your device will ask you to confirm this action. Simply click “Remove” once more.
- Password Verification: Brace yourself for one final task. You’ll need to verify your password when prompted.
- Voila! Your PIN is gone, just like that. Windows won’t bother you with it during startup anymore.
However, if you’ve set a blank on your current PIN, don’t fret. You’ll need to follow a few additional steps instead of immediately tapping that Remove button.
- Select “I forgot my PIN”: Click on this option to signal that you’ve drawn a blank on your PIN.
- Click Continue: Keep things moving by hitting “Continue.”
- Leave the PIN Blank: In this step, leave the PIN field empty.
- Click Cancel: Confirm your decision by clicking “Cancel.”
- Log in to Microsoft Account: You might be asked to log in to your Microsoft account if you haven’t already. It could also prompt you to verify your account password.
That’s the lowdown. As simple as that, your Windows 10 PIN is now history. Should you ever want to rekindle your PIN relationship, remember, it’s just a few clicks away.
