In response to earlier rumors, Lenovo has unveiled its Legion Go, marking the company’s entry into the gaming handheld market. Running on Windows 11, this device is set to compete with the ROG Ally. The device feature is its 8.8-inch QHD+ display, supporting resolutions from 1600p to 800p and offering both 144Hz and 60Hz refresh rates.
Legion Go come with its AMD Z1 Extreme APU, 16GB LPDDR5X 7500MHz RAM, and up to 1TB of NVMe M.2 2242 PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. Additionally, it contains a UHS-II microSD card slot, allowing for expansion up to 2TB.
Lenovo has equipped the Legion Go with Coldfront thermal technology, featuring a liquid crystal polymer 79-blade fan. This innovation effectively keeps the device cool, producing less than 25dB of fan noise in Quiet Mode while still maintaining a full 25W of TGP in Custom Mode.
The device’s controllers feature hall effect joysticks, offering enhanced responsiveness and accuracy with no joystick drift and minimal dead zones. The Legion Go also includes an integrated trackpad, a large D-pad, an angled mouse wheel, and a total of 10 mappable shoulder buttons, triggers, and grip buttons.
Incorporating RGB lighting on the power button and customizable RGB rings around the joysticks, Lenovo adds both style and functionality. The RGB lighting even serves as a notification system for controller pairing.
The Legion Go’s Legion TrueStrike controllers are detachable, allowing for different play styles. In FPS mode, users can detach the controllers and use the built-in kickstand for a comfortable gaming experience. Additionally, the right detached controller attaches magnetically to a controller base, providing precise aiming and control for competitive FPS games.
Lenovo introduces the Legion Space, a dedicated area for Legion Go users. This space offers quick access to game platforms, stores, and locally installed games. It also features the Legion Game Store in collaboration with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, providing a complimentary 3-month membership. Gamers can group supported game launchers together in Legion Space, streamlining their gaming experience and allowing for on-the-fly adjustments to settings like resolution, refresh rate, and brightness.
The Legion Go includes dual USB Type-C ports for docking, charging, and connecting accessories. It supports DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0, ensuring seamless plug-and-play functionality. Furthermore, the device features Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support.
Powering the Legion Go is a 49.2Wh capacity battery with Super Rapid Charge support. This enables a 70% recharge in just 30 minutes. When gaming while plugged in, a power bypass mode safeguards the battery from unnecessary degradation and excess heat generated during charging.
